IFcomp 2016: Thaxted Havershill And the Golden Wombat (Andrew Brown)

Golden wombats sound like fun.

An attempt to write a humorous TWINE IF game… The walk through is included… (Hmmm… This isn’t a very exciting blurb, is it?)

Sorry, that’s not exciting, but I’m glad there’s a walkthrough!

Okay, starting off locked in the dungeon. I’m an amazing hero, so obviously this is exactly where I want to be.

When one of the option is “give him a jolly good beating,” that’s the one I’m going to go with!

“Weren’t expecting this, were you?” shouts Thaxted as he repeatedly punches the guard’s face. “No subtlety, no style, just a jolly good beating.”

Now I’m out of the dungeon! And I have successfully extracted information from a guard!

And here’s the randomly generated part of the game. I’m fighting Zoltan, who starts with 18 stamina to my 10. The only option is to keep fighting; I can’t even run away. So I died.

Restarted the game and followed the walkthrough this time! Now instead of fighting Zoltan I went downstairs to fight a serpent. I had the choice to be a coward but I didn’t take it, because there is no chance that Thaxted Havershill is a coward.

Oh, hey, it’s Zoltan again. But this time my knife is poisoned! And I won!

Sitting on a table next to the Baron is the object of Thaxted’s quest… The Golden Wombat is four inches high and cast from solid gold. Its eyes are emeralds which twinkle in the gas light.

Aww, I was hoping it would be bigger.

I’m not going to spoil anything after that. The writing was good, but could have used a grammar check. There was a lot of text between each choice, and the game itself is pretty short. I’d recommend it, especially since the author was kind enough to provide a walkthrough.
